CONFERENCE OVERVIEW

  • Changing the Climate of Education is the theme for this year’s Science in the South Conference. Our conference goal is to support K-12 educators with content knowledge, educator growth, and student learn.
  •   Whether you are a first year teacher looking for new ideas or a veteran teacher looking for ways to energize your classroom, the Science in the South Conference provides ample opportunities to connect with other educators, explore ways to share science information, earn PD credits, and to just have a great time learning. Earn up to 5.0 Professional Development Hours (PDHs) for attending and participating.

Schedule

8:00 am: Registration and Continental Breakfast and Networking

9:00 am: Featured Speaker, with Dr. Justin Schoof

10:00 am: Sessions (1 & 2)

12:00 pm: Lunch and Making the Most of Your ISTA Membership

1:00 pm: Sessions (3, 4 & 5)

4:00 pm: Wine/Beer & Cheese Reception and Giveaways!


Featured Speaker

Dr. Justin Schoof

Dr. Schoof is the Director of the School of Earth Systems and Sustainability at SIU, where he has worked since 2006. He is a climate scientist who teaches and conducts research on regional climate variability and extremes. He has authored or co-authored more than 50 peer-reviewed climate studies. He also enjoys talking about climate science with community groups and other interested parties. He lives in Carbondale with his wife and son.

All registrants receive a free 1-year ISTA membership or membership renewal.

Come talk with many commercial and non-commercial exhibitors.  There displays will be open from 8:00 am - 4:00 pm. 

Innovations in STEM Grant Application

We encourage you to submit a project proposal for this year’s Innovations in STEM Education Teacher Grant Program. For more information or to apply, use the link below. Open to formal or informal educators in ISTA Region 6.
